On the morning of Thursday, April 24, Deadline published a report asserting that Sharpe would “almost certainly not be returning to ESPN’s ‘First Take’ next week.” Furthermore, the report asserted that the network intends to “further investigate” Zuniga’s claims against Sharpe.
As of Thursday afternoon, Sharpe appears to have confirmed the network’s apparent decision with his own statement. Furthermore, the 56-year-old took to his social media to reiterate that his relationship with Zuniga was “consensual.” However, he noted that he is “electing to step aside temporarily” from his duties at ESPN.
“I will be devoting this time to my family, and responding and dealing with these false and disruptive allegations set against me. I plan to return to ESPN at the start of the NFL preseason,” Sharpe wrote..

Furthermore, “minutes” after Sharpe’s statement was shared, a spokesperson of ESPN reportedly told Deadline, “This is a serious situation, and we agree with Shannon’s decision to step away.”
